The Wine and Siena, organized by the Merano Wine Festival, represented undoubtedly a success that has seen protagonist the city of Siena, as well as, of course, the wine and culinary excellence of the territory.
Borgo Grondaie wanted to host real “excellence” of the area thanks to their typical products, made in Tuscany: Birrificio (Brewery) San Quirico, Salumificio Venturini, Fabbrica del Panforte and Col di Lamo wines.
Birrificio San Quirico produces high fermentation beers, unfiltered and unpasteurized and without the use of preservatives and additives.
The brewery is located in an ancient medieval building in the historic center of San Quirico, one of the most beautiful villages in Val d’Orcia, in which is UNESCO World Heritage.
All the beers are produced with raw materials from the territory. In particular, the grain is bought from farmers in the Val d’Orcia and the water used is that proviente from Vivo d’Orcia (Monte Amiata). Malt and hops are provided by Italian dealers who buy them from producers in Northern Europe, in English and German particulate. The brewery produces in particular two kind of beer called Giulitta and Iris.
Tuscan wine was represented by Col di Lamo company with its Brunello of Montalcino. The wine label was created in order to recognise the woman’s touch. You can see a the profile of a woman and two colours: orange and green. They represent the owner, Giovanna Neri.
Another excellent present at the event organized by Borgo Grondaie, was Salumificio Venturini (a typical butcher) with a wide range of products.
The origin of the company Venturini dates back to 1890 when the founder of the family, Gesualdo Venturini, began for the first pig meat processing in Siena.
The meat comes from farms that are less than 20 km from the plant. The selling point of the Salumificio Venturini is in Arbia, along the way, and continuing south, cross the magnificent landscape of the Crete Senesi until arriving at Asciano and the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore. The most important products, which there were in Borgo Grondaie, were those of Cinta senese, a typical race of pork and pecorino cheeses.
Another company which were present at the event, was La Fabbrica del Panforte of Siena, born in 1994 in order to revive and make known the traditional Sienese sweets, including Panforte and Ricciarelli. Every recipe is cook following the typical italian culinary tradition. It is located in Pian dei Mori, close to Sovicille. A curiosity: in 2010 Ricciarelli di Siena have officially assumed the PGI (Protected Geographical Indication). La Fabbrica del Panforte produces PGI Ricciarelli by selecting carefully italian raw materials, kneading the dough and shaping the pieces manually, one by one, in order to obtain an excellent product.
It has been an evening of conviviality, good food and good wine. This is Borgo Grondaie style!
