Cycling museums Tuscany Siena

March in Tuscany is the time for Cyclism lovers to visit us! Infact the famous cycling race Strade Bianche will take place on March 9th and 10th. It reminds us the Big Players of the Cycling, those who made the history such as Alfredo Martini, Gino Bartali or Fausto Coppi. All of them were italian cyclists, winners of great awards in the 40s and 50s when the roads were dusty and the power was just in their legs and in their mind (no on modern and light bikes instead!).

So the land of Tuscany offers us great occasions to go back in time: it’s right in Sesto Fiorentino, near Florence, where there’s the Alfredo Martini’s house.  It is a museum-gallery, dedicated to this unforgettable cyclist but and to his career, opened by his own family. It’s a gallery  full of memories, objects and pictures to bring back to life the amazing experience of Martini and his bike.  The house museum is reachable in about one hour from Siena through the SS674.

Alfredo Martini

One of the most renowed tuscan Cyclist is Gino Bartali  and his museum is located in Ponte a Ema (where he was born) near Florence. In the so called Ciclomuseo Gino Bartali you will find a three floors museum entirely dedicated to bikes, memorabilia, vintage newspapers and video clips documenting the cycling’s history and of course his life.

Moreover the museum have got an video collection showing his performances during the Italian Tour and interviews. The museum Gino Bartali is 1 hour far away from Siena. You can either take the dual carriage road to Florence and then join the E45 direction ROMA or if you have time and you want to experience a enjoyable drive through the Chianti hills, you can follow signs to Castellina in Chianti on the road SP222 and just keep on driving on the same road to the very end (direction Florence).
