July,6th /7th /8th and July 13th /14th /15th THE MEDIEVAL FESTIVAL in MONTERIGGIONI
The XXII edition of the Medieval Festival returns to animate the historical center of Monteriggioni, a beautiful village located few kilometers from Siena.
In the first two weekends in July (6th /7th /8th and 13th /14th /15th ) inside the enchanting city wall with its massive towers, dozen of events will take place. The theme of this year will be “Heaven end Hell”.
In the squares, in streets and gardens of the village, good and evil will fight setting shadows of demons, witches, alchemists against the light of angels, jugglers, storytellers and other fantastic creatures.
The festival, like every year will give hospitality to characters that seem to come directly from the past, immersed in a medieval atmosphere recreated through the markets, minstrels, dances, pubs, taverns where you can taste the delights of the medieval time.
For your shopping there will be also an exchange office to convert your currency into“grossi”(coined for the occasion).

Saturday,June 2nd and Sunday,June 24th TOUR OF ROCK STAGGIA, ABBADIA ISLAND, MONTERIGGIONI

A few kilometers from Siena, on the prestigious Via Francigena, there are three significant places connected by a path and a shared history. In the day Saturday, June 2nd and Sunday, June 24th you can discover these places through a guided tour through which to admire the beautiful fortress of Staggia with its Castle, the Towers and the walls still passable. You can visit the magnificent Abbey Island Abbey, founded in 1001 and owes its name to the environment, emerging as the edges of wetlands; the church seemed to rest on an island. The visit continues in the wonderful village of Monteriggioni, a magical place where time seems to stand still, enclosed within its walls and towers, a place that always attracts many tourists for its beauty, including Dante Alighieri. He saw Monteriggioni in full battle in one of his trips, and celebrated the majesty in his most famous work, the Divine Comedy.

12 am – Welcoming the new season
- parade of all the noble men and the lord of the castle, together with the drummers and the garrison of the castle
- performance of the drummers to welcome the new season
3 pm – Workshop of the enchantments
- entertainment for the small guests with ‘il Giullarjocoso and Ygraine’ (jestlers / clowns)
4 pm – The historical group of Monteriggioni holding court
- gathering in the main square in presence of the lord of the castle, involving the public in funny games
5 pm – Closing of the festival activities
- performance of dancers and drummers
- procession of closure

The Francigena road: a walking tour with historical costumes
On 1st, 15th and 25th April and 1st, 13th and 20th May 2012

Monteriggioni Town Council organizes a walking tour from Abbadia Isola to Monteriggioni.
During the promenade a pilgrim will tell you his story of his trip towords Rome. At the arrival at Monteeriggioni fortress you will be welcome by the gurrison’s captain.
Departure at 10 am from Abbadia Isola – lenght4 km – last about 2.15 hours
Minimum participants 15
Reservation required by 2 days prior the promenade
Price for adult 20 euro and 5 euro for children from 7 to 11, free for youngers
At the end there will be a shuttle available to brings participants back to Abbadia Isola
